CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION OF THE DEPARTMENT

Vagrasika- A Workshop on Book Appreciation

      A one day workshop on book appreciation, 'Vagrasika' was organised by the Book Lovers' Club on September 30, 2015. The English session in the morning was led by the veteran English professor, Dr. C. S. Jayaraman ( Amruta School of Arts and Science) and the Malayalam session in the afternoon was engaged by the popular Malayalam poet, Sri Sreekumar Mukhathala, ( Programme Executive, All India Radio). Around sixty students from degree and postgraduate courses of various departments attended the workshop. 

Onam celebration- English Association

ENGLISH ASSOCIATION
English Association was inaugurated by Dr. C.B Sudhakaran, Head of the Department of English, Ilahia College of Arts ans Science, Muvattupuzha on 05-08-2015. The meeting was presided over by the Head of the English Department, Caption Jayson Thomas. Dr. Thampy Abraham, Principal of St. Peter's College felicitated the occasion. The teachers in charge for the academic year 2015-16 are Prof. Jain Mathew and Dr. Jessy James. Fresher's Day was organized by the association on 07-08-2015. Onam was celebrated with zeal and vigor by the association on 21-08-2015.
The Department participated in all competitions held by the Women's cell of the college in association with Onam celebration and the English Department secured the most coveted first prize for the BEST STALL competition along with the first prize it got for the BEST MAVELI competition and Second prize for GROUP SONG.

ACTIVITIES IN AUGUST
The weekly series of presentations by the Book Lover's Club and The Creative writers Forum was conducted in the month. The Reading Corner was well maintained by the respective classes. English Department installed a new Notice Board in front of the department.
Creative Writer's Forum
In association with the birth centenary of the renowned writer in Malayalm Uroob, Creative writers' forum organized a Lecture by K. Ravikuttan on the topic Uroob-100years.
Onam was celebrated by the Creative Writers' Forum on 17th. Dr. Paul Vargese, HOD of Malayalam delivered the keynote address.

 CREATIVE WRITERS' FORUM IS ORGANIZING UROOB-100 YEARS; WITH REGARD TO THE BIRTH CENTENARY OF UROOB. K.RAVIKUTTAN,  CULTURAL ACTIVIST WILL DELIVER THE KEY NOTE ADDRESS

ACTIVITIES IN  JULY
THE READING CORNER IS WELL MAINTAINED PROVIDING SPACE FOR THE STUDENTS TO READ RECENT JOURNALS AND ARTICLES
THE WEEKLY PRESENTATIONS OF BOOK LOVES' CLUB AND CREATIVE WRITERS' FORUM WERE CONDUCTED.

ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT IN THE MONTH OF JUNE
1. THE BOOK LOVER'S CLUB OBSERVED READING WEEK DURING THE THIRD WEEK OF THE MONTH. IN ITS REGARD THE BOOK LOVERS' CLUB CONTRIBUTED A READING CORNER FOR THE COLLEGE. STUDENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT ARE GIVEN CHARGES FOR THE PROPER MAINTENANCE .
2. THE BOOK LOVES CLUB CONDUCTED A READING COMPETITION 'VAKCHATURI' IN WHICH 35 STUDENTS FROM DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS OF THE COLLEGE PARTICIPATED.
3.THE BOOK LOVE'RS' CLUB CONDUCTED A POSTER EXHIBITION ON THE SIGNIFICANCE OF READING AND GOT NUMEROUS ENTRIES .
4. THE WEEKLY PRESENTATION OF THE BOOK LOVERS CLUB BEGAN ON 23 OF THE MONTH. THE BOOK PRESENTED WAS 'INI NJAN URANGATTE' BY P.K BALAKRISHNAN.
